Police hurt in booze-fuelled weekend of violence

POLICE officers were rushed to hospital and emergency departments were inundated with injured people yesterday after Sydney was again soaked in violence

over the weekend.
One officer was taken to hospital and another treated for concussion after arresting a man involved in a glassing at Mount Druitt in Sydney's west on Saturday,

The Daily Telegraph reports.

Police said a bar manager, 34, was glassed in the face by a patron who had been refused service. A security guard was also hit with a bar stool when he came

to the barman's aid.

Police tracked down the drunken offender at Dean Park a short time later where one officer was kicked in the face and another in the head and shoulder during

the arrest.
In another of the incidents, about 1.30am (AEDT) on Saturday a 19-year-old woman was rushed to St George Hospital with fractured eye sockets after she was

allegedly stomped on the head by a man, 27, at Mortdale.

They will allege the man threw the woman onto a concrete driveway before stomping on her head a number of times.

St Vincent's Hospital's emergency department was packed with more than 20 assault victims as fights broke out across the city.

A 24-year-old Ingleburn man was taken to hospital after he was punched in the face and hit his head on the footpath after leaving a nightclub with a friend

about 5am.

Police were out in force at the weekend running several "high visibility" operations.

St Vincent's Hospital's Dr Martin Duffy said the arrival of more than 20 alcohol-related victims was "stock standard" on any given Friday or Saturday night.
