Australia addicted to Pokies nothing to be proud of

A great article on the SMH by Stephanie Peatling shows Australia is ranked 8th in the world for the number of Pokie machines.
Australia has 1 machine for every 110 people, or 186,344 machines.

The problem gambling activists are proposing a “stop revive survive” style campaign to encourage gamblers to take a break from the pokie machine they are

playing.

Players will be logged and automatically cut off for a period for 20 mins every 2 hours and during that time their machine cannot be played nor can the player

use other machines.
In 2009 NRL club Rabbitoh’s proposed a radical idea to remove the pokie machines from their club, as typically the areas of poor social economic

backgrounds spend the most on the pokies. This revenue is used to fund the football club, and unfortunately this was voted down as the board couldn’t see

another way to fund the club.

Banks are backing the removal of ATM machines from playing area’s though I suspect it’s not the Banks ATM machines currently in playing areas.
